Salon Arabic Book Club is a monthly women’s Arabic literary and cultural gathering at UMMA Center.
Each salon begins with one meaningful question and brings together five books that approach it from different perspectives. Participants do not all have to read the same book. Each woman may select the book that awakens her curiosity, read it, and return to the table with a thought, question, insight, surprise, or disagreement.
This is not a lecture or a traditional book-summary group. It is a welcoming space where women can read, listen, ask questions, agree, disagree, and explore literature, ideas, faith, culture, meaning, and life together.
Our opening question is:
What do we do with this life?
The opening collection includes:
1. The Death of Ivan Ilyich — Leo Tolstoy
2. Four Thousand Weeks — Oliver Burkeman
3. Man’s Search for Meaning — Viktor Frankl
4. Hayy ibn Yaqzan — Ibn Tufail
5. Sayd al-Khatir — Ibn al-Jawzi
One monthly gathering. Five books. Five perspectives. One table.
UMMA Center.
